Short-handed pot-limit Omaha Hi/Lo was the game for Event #24 of this year’s Turbo Championship of Online Poker, with the tourney’s $109 price tag proving attractive enough for a big field of 1,201 to take part. That group built a prize pool of $120,100 between them — better than the $100K guarantee — and after just over four hours it was Ukraine’s jungledancer tripping away with the title and prize of $16,459.34 following a three-way final table deal.

It took only a little over two hours and 10 minutes for the money bubble to burst in this one, at which point Raymen82 led the way with 156 players left. Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel was among those then still in the hunt, earning his fourth cash of this year’s TCOOP. The Canadian pro would last a short while longer before falling in a three-way hand won by Jalkive to go out in 61st place ($288.24).

By the time they were approaching the three-and-a-half-hour mark just 12 players remained with Raymen82 having fallen in 31st ($504.42) and Svaeren having become the new chip leader. KomendaCZ (12th), MaxErosAmore (11th), and alexdorey600 (10th) soon hit the rail, each earning $1,501.25. They were followed quickly by sirtenzoe (ninth), bahgeera (eighth), and agentj25 (seventh), who earned $2,101.75 apiece.

Svaeren was still leading with seven left, but after losing a big pot to jungledancer had slipped to sixth of six. Meanwhile AngryJuice had become the new chip leader to start the final table.

Seat 1: jungledancer (Ukraine) — 1,358,148
Seat 2: juicetus (Germany) — 313,765
Seat 3: AngryJuice (Finland) — 1,877,690
Seat 4: Macieq (Poland) — 633,089
Seat 5: Svaeren (Norway) — 98,400
Seat 6: showtime (Canada) — 1,723,908

That said, with blinds of 60,000/120,000 to start the final table, AngryJuice’s lead was a tenuous one with the average stack among the final six only just over eight big blinds.

Of the final group, Macieq was looking for a second career TCOOP title after having won the $82+R NL Omaha H/L, 6-Max event a year ago. But this final table didn’t start so well for Macieq, and on just the third hand Macieq open-pushed all in for just under 320,000 from middle position. Svaeren then called all in from a seat over with an even shorter stack, and showtime reraised from the button to push out the blinds.

Macieq: A♥ 7♦ 4♦ 3♣
showtime: A♠ J♠ 10♥ 2♥
Svaeren: A♣ Q♥ 10♣ 6♥

The board came 5♦ 8♣ 9♥ , then Kâ™  , then K♣ . That missed all three players’ hands as far as high hands went, with showtime and Svaeren’s kickers letting them split that part of the pot, and no low was possible meaning the end of the road for the sixth-place finishing Macieq.

Just two hands after that AngryJuice opened with a pot-sized raise to 420,000 from the small blind and Svaeren called from the big blind. The flop came 5♥ 3♣ 7â™  , AngryJuice pushed all in for 657,290, and Svaeren — who had chipped up during the final table’s initial hands — called the bet, having AngryJuice covered.

Svaeren showed 4♠ 3♠ 2♥ 2♦ while AngryJuice had A♦ 8♥ 8♣ 6♣ . The turn was the 5♣ and river the 3♥ , giving AngryJuice eights and fives for the high and a 7-6-5-3-A for the low. But Svaeren had both beat with trip treys for the high and a 7-5-4-3-2 low, knocking AngryJuice out in fifth.

They played past the tourney’s four-hour mark, then with the blinds at 100,000/200,000 it was showtime raising pot to 700,000 from the button and juicetus calling all in for just over 350,000 after having posted the big blind.

juicetus had Kâ™  J♣ 6♦ 4♦ while showtime showed 7♦ 6♣ 5♦ 2♣ . The 8♣ 10♥ 9â™  10♦ 8♦ runout didn’t provide any low hands while showtime’s ten-high straight was good for the high, eliminating juicetus in fourth.

The final three players continued, then had already agreed to pause the tournament to discuss a deal when Svaeren won a big double-up through showtime to take the lead with about 2.48 million. jungledancer was in second after that hand with about 1.78 million, with showtime close behind with about 1.74 million.

The blinds were up to 125,000/250,000, meaning there were only about 12 big blinds in play total between the trio and making a deal all the more attractive. “Chip chop”-based figures were presented — leaving $2,000 left for which to play in both cases — and after some discussion — and it didn’t take long for the three players to agree to the deal.

From that point forward seven more hands would be played. The first one saw jungledancer double through Svaeren to grab the chip lead. Then on the following hand showtime opened from the button and Svaeren called all in from the big blind with a short stack.

Svaeren had 10♥ 5♠ 4♣ 3♣ and showtime A♠ 8♣ 7♠ 2♠ , and after the community cards came 7♦ 6♣ J♥ 6♦ J♠ showtime scooped with two pair for the high and Svaeren was out in third.

jungledancer had the lead with about 3.55 million to showtime’s 2.45 million to start heads-up play, but on the first hand between them showtime would double through after picking up single-suited aces and connecting with the board well enough to scoop. But jungledancer would double up on each of the next two hands to retake most of those chips and assume the chip lead, then one hand later the final hand took place.

It began with a 3x button raise to 900,000 by jungledancer, to which showtime responded with an all-in push for about 1.9 million and jungledancer called.

showtime: A♥ Q♣ J♠ 4♦
jungledancer: A♣ 10♠ 5♣ 4♣

The flop came 2♠ K♠ 10♦ , giving jungledancer a pair, then the 5♠ turn made a second one for the chip leader. The river was 4♥ , giving showtime a second-best pair of fours and a second-place finish, and awarding jungledancer the title and the extra $2,000.

Congratulations to jungledancer for the win and kudos also to showtime and Svaeren for making it to the three-way deal to ensure themselves nice paydays as well.
