A familiar name at the Sunday Majors, WCOOP, and SCOOP final tables, EDWARDHOPPER was once again looking for that elusive major online win. As reported by Kristin Bihr during Dane’s run in the Sunday Million last month, EDWARDHOPPER’s list of runner-up finishes is long and would be knocking on the door for the win again in tonight’s $500,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up taking the chip lead into the final table. Then, fate stepped in once again as EDWARDHOPPER would lose the chip lead going into heads-up play as goolirpoker took down the title after an even-chop for $85,160.80 leaving EDWARDHOPPER as perhaps the poker equivalent of American actress Susan Lucci getting 19 Emmy award nominations before finally winning.
Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren commented on Twitter (@VictoriaCoren) how she was happy spending money to play the Sunday Majors today. Once in a while though, a player like Coren might make a withdrawal from the prize pool and did so today alongside fellow pros Marcel Luske (290th place – $396.03) and Sunday Warm-Up slayer Martin “AABenjaminAA” Hruby who cashed for the second straight week and third time in July.
Coren’s tournament run would come to an end right before the sixth hourly break. With the blinds at 4K/8K ante 800 Map97 would make a min-raise from the button as the Team Pro shoved for 49,846 from the small blind holding Q♣ A♣ . Map97 would make the call holding a pair of deuces 2â™ 2♥ and sent Vicky packing in 152nd place after the 7♥ 10♥ 10â™ 6♣ 5♥ board failed to connect with her hand.
A little further up the pay scale, Martin’s tournament would also come to an end before the final table. With the blinds up to 5K/10K ante 1K after trading bets with CrAzYDuRdEn, Martin’s 205,723 tournament chips found their way to the middle holding big slick Kâ™ A♥ . CrAzYDuRdEn however was sitting higher with kings K♣ K♦ and managed to get through the 3♦ 2â™ 7♦ 5♥ 5♦ unscathed to knockout Hruby in 110th place ($786.24).
Down to two tables left in the tournament woody1234321 who was simultaneously playing the final table of the Battle of the Planets monthly $50,000 triple shootout freeroll (finishing in ninth place for $775.00) would claim a little bigger check from the Sunday Warm-Up in 12th place ($3,640.00).
A few minutes later EDWARDHOPPER would push up the usual starting time of the Sunday Warm-Up final table. With the blinds at only 40K/80K ante 8K whollyflush would min-raise from the button as EDWARDHOPPER made it 360,000 chips from the small blind. Holding pocket sixes 6♠6♣ whollyflush shoved 2.9 million into the pot as EDWARDHOPPER quickly called with a pair of ladies Q♥ Q♠. A third queen on the flop 3♠3♥ Q♦ 2♣ 8♦ would send the 5.9 million chip pot and the chip lead to EDWARDHOPPER and start up the final table below:
Seat 1: pilsuhng (1845766 in chips)
Seat 2: mrAndreeew (2702365 in chips)
Seat 3: goolirpoker (3885511 in chips)
Seat 4: EDWARDHOPPER (9540588 in chips)
Seat 5: gerikov (1667583 in chips)
Seat 6: DontBluffMyJ (3477564 in chips)
Seat 7: RibyJl9R (1563597 in chips)
Seat 8: Jab0c0 (2474508 in chips)
Seat 9: vladulaNko (1962518 in chips)
Dominated all around
As the blinds moved up to 50K/100K ante 10K goolirpoker would raise to 250,000 from the cutoff as gerikov made it 1.3 million total with a shove from the small blind holding Q♣ K♥ . A fairly easy call for goolirpoker’s big slick A♣ K♣ as the 3â™ 9â™ 10♦ 4♥ 7♣ board laid out no threats to the domination sending gerikov off in ninth place ($4,950.40).
Goolir throws another player out
Ten minutes later right before an increase to the blinds, Jab0c0 would raise it up to 215,000 as pilsuhng made the call from the button and goolirpoker did the same from the big blind. A mid-range flop 7♣ 5♣ 8♥ got goolirpoker’s attention, leading out for 500,000 as Jab0c0 abandoned ship. However, pilsuhng slyly holding pocket aces A♥ A♦ shoved for 1.51 million. The slowplay would backfire this time as goolirpoker called with a flopped set 5â™ 5♥ . Nothing on the 10♦ nor river 7♦ and pilsuhng’s cracked aces picked up $7,874.04 in eighth place.
Not bluffing your J
As the blinds moved up to 65K/130K ante 13K goolirpoker would start off the hand with a min-raise as DontBluffMyJ shoved for 2.39 million and RibyJl9R did likewise for 3.76 million. After goolirpoker left the free chips out in the middle, watch below to see who would claim this 5.3 million chip pot:
A flip for a decent stack to challenge chip leader EDWARDHOPPER, DontBluffMyJ’s A♥ J♣ came up short against the pocket tens 10♦ 10♣ of RibyJl9R on the 6â™ 6♦ 8♥ K♥ Qâ™ board to finish in seventh place ($13,686.40).
That’s MISTER Andreeew to you
Six minutes later with the blinds holding at 65K/130K ante 13K RibyJl9R’s min-raise was immediately challenged by Jab0c0’s shove for 1.21 million from the button. mrAndreeew would also shove from the big blind for 2.79 holding big slick A♥ K♥ . RibyJl9R said goodbye to the 130,000 chips as Jab0c0 turned up a dominated 10♥ A♣ . Both players found their kickers on the 8♦ 10♦ K♣ 3♣ 5♣ flop as Jab0c0’s tens were not enough to advance collecting $19,510.40 in sixth place.
Not looking like a runner-up tonight
EDWARDHOPPER has maintained the chip lead throughout the final table tonight and still looking to wire-to-wire for the elusive win. Much like Roger Federer’s relief not to see Team PokerStars SportStar Rafa Nadal stepping out on Center Court during a French Open final (Rafa is a perfect 4-0 versus the Swiss pro in French Open finals), EDWARDHOPPER was cruising along to victory at this point. With the blinds at 100K/200K ante 20K the chip leader would min-raise from the hijack seat as mrAndreeew shoved for 3.7 million from the small blind. Holding big slick K♦ A♥ EDWARDHOPPER made the call facing a flip against mrAndreeew’s pocket jacks J♦ Jâ™ . A king in the door K♥ 9â™ 6♦ 4♥ 5â™ send 7.7 million chips on top of the chip lead and ended mrAndreeew’s run in fifth place ($25,334.40). mrAndreeew is not new to the big time major final tables, as shown by a Super Tuesday win for $100K in March.
Vlad’s last bite
As the blinds moved up to 125K/250K ante 25K vladulaNko tried to steal the blinds with an open shove from the small blind for 1.91 million. However goolirpoker with seven million chips held pocket eights 8♣ 8â™ and was happy to make the call. vladulaNko’s 7♣ Kâ™ would find a seven on the 10â™ 6♦ 2♦ 7♥ J♣ board but not enough to overtake the eights hitting the rail in fourth place ($33,488.00). A former champ of this tournament, vladulaNko claimed a Sunday Warm-Up crown in October 2012 for $109K.
Shot to the rib
Just three hands later as the blinds stayed the same RibyJl9R would make a min-raise from the button as goolirpoker wasted no time in shoving 8.67 million into the middle. Holding A♣ Qâ™ RibyJl9R made the call to create a 16.2 million chip pot. The winner would overtake EDWARDHOPPER’s chip lead, the loser would be on fumes or out. RibyJl9R would be out after goolirpoker flipped up pocket queens Q♦ Q♥ and watched the ladies cause some yips on the K♥ J♣ 4♣ 3♣ 2â™ board but taking down the big pot and ending RibyJl9R’s night in third place ($48,921.60) as EDWARDHOPPER would get yet another shot at a major title.
Quick Intermission
A rather quick, even deal between goolirpoker and EDWARDHOPPER set $10,160.80 aside for tonight’s champ and possible redemption for the eternal bridesmaid EDWARDHOPPER:
EDWARDHOPPER: $75,000.00
goolirpoker: $75,000.00
Again?!?!
When chatting briefly about splitting the money before the heads-up chop EDWARDHOPPER said “nah, noty. itll be your mistake anyways.. I always get 2nd in these!“.
Perhaps EDWARDHOPPER jinxed the cards with that statement because heads-up play went goolirpoker’s way. Twice EDWARDHOPPER would be all-in with a shortened stack only to double up. Just two hands after the Dane’s second double up to 11.2 million and still trailing goolirpoker’s 17.8 million, the runner-up fate was sealed in the hand below:
This one was made even more painful from cracked aces A♦ A♣ . After a preflop min-raise by EDWARDHOPPER and a call, the innocent looking 5♦ Jâ™ 7♥ flop would send the Sunday Warm-Up title to goolirpoker as the two traded bets until EDWARDHOPPER’s chips were all-in against goolirpoker’s flopped two pair 7♦ 5â™ . 6♦ turn and K♣ river would send $85,160.80 to goolirpoker as this week’s Sunday Warm-Up champ!
