Super Tuesday logo.pngThis week’s Super Tuesday saw no decline in numbers resulting from the ongoing TCOOP, with another big field of 445 showing up for the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold’em tournament. That’s a small increase from last week, and in fact represents the largest Super Tuesday field since almost a year ago when 475 played on 2/8/11.

That big bunch meant a prize pool of $445,000, almost tripling the tourney’s $150K guarantee. The top 54 finishers would split the loot, with a whopping $85,395.50 due the winner.

It took about four hours for the field to shrink to 100 players, at which point elpivesabe had found the top spot with more than 68,000, followed by Jason “StatusUp” Lavallee with a little more than 56,000 and Stefan “YrssiNN” Huber with about 55,000.

Team PokerStars was well represented among the final hundred, with Jose “Nacho” Barbero and Johnny Lodden in the top ten and Shane “shaniac” Schleger of Team Online sitting back in 59th place. Meanwhile, among those not making that far were Jude “j.thaddeus” Ainsworth (318th), Andre “aakkari” Akkari (148th), and Angel Guillén (104th).

A little over an hour later there were 60 players left, just six eliminations from the money. Shortly after that a short-stacked Schleger was all in before the flop with A♦ K♥ against 14Hopper’s A♣ Jâ™  . Alas for “shaniac” a jack fell on the flop, and two cards later he was out in 59th place.

The bubble burst about 15 minutes after that, at which point Johnny Lodden had risen to the top of the leaderboard with a stack of better than 152,000, followed by Schleger’s vanquisher 14Hopper with almost 113,000 and bearsfan775 — who just final-tabled TCOOP Event #25 ($215 NLHE) earlier on Tuesday — in third with just under 100,000.

Jose “Nacho” Barbero was the first elimination once the bubble had burst, going out in 54th ($2,225) after his 4â™  4♦ failed to improve against RonaldKosh’s Kâ™  K♦ . It would then take almost until the eight-hour mark for the tourney to move down to the final table bubble.

Eliminations along the way included Big_nat123 (48th, $2,225), Keven “Stammdogg” Stammen (47th, $2,225), Fred_Brink (42nd, $2,447.50), Aaron “JeanGrae” McCready (38th, $2,447.50), Stefan “YrssiNN” Huber (37th, $2,447.50), Aaron Been (36th, $2,670), Ansgar2000 (31st, $2,670), Nicolas “nick” Chouity (26th, $3,115), mikki696 (22nd, $3,115), Bryn Kenney (18th, $4,005), 14Hopper (15th, $4,895), and Bryan “bparis” Paris (13th, $4,895).

While Lodden relinquished the lead occasionally during that stretch, with 10 players left he was back on top with better than 480,000, followed by blakjak19 with almost 360,000 and GringoBrasil with just under 343,000.

Finally ~shpongle99~ knocked out Fabrizio “SixthSenSe19” Gonzalez in 10th ($5,785) after getting all of Gonzalez’ chips in the middle on the turn with the board showing 8♥ 2♥ 5♥ Qâ™  . Gonzalez held 10â™  10♣ , behind ~shpongle99~’s set of fives with 5♣ 5♦ , and after the 2♣ fell on the river the final nine was set.

It would take about 45 minutes for the first final table elimination, by which time the blinds had reached 3,200/6,400. That hand began with AlexeyKID opening with a raise to 19,200 from UTG+1 and getting a single caller in blakjak19 from a couple of seats over. The flop came 4♣ 6♦ 10♥ and AlexeyKID continued with a bet of 55,200. blakjak19 responded with an all-in push for 199,748 total and AlexeyKID called.

blakjak19 turned over A♥ K♣ and was still looking for a pairing card to top AlexeyKID’s Q♣ Q♥ . The turn brought the Q♦ , giving AlexeyKID a set and now forcing blakjak19 to hope for a straight-making jack to survive. But the river was the 10♦ , improving AlexeyKID to a full house and sending blakjak19 railward in ninth.

The remaining eight would continue to battle with their deep stacks through to the nine-hour break, with Lodden still in front with just over 700,000 and Jason “StatusUp” Lavallee the extreme short stack with just under 25,000.

It was just the second hand after the break that AlexeyKID raised 3x to 21,600 and it folded around to Lavallee who pushed his last 22,476 from the big blind, getting a quick call from AlexeyKID. StatusUp had K♥ 10♣ , but AlexeyKID had A♣ K♣ , and after the board came 3♥ 2♦ A♦ 8♦ 4♦ , Lavallee was gone in eighth.

About a dozen hands later Johnny Lodden minimum-raised to 16,000 and it folded around to GringoBrasil in the big blind. GringoBrasil had become short-stacked, down to just 13,740 to start the hand, and committed the few chips he had left to call with K♥ 3♥ versus Lodden’s A♦ 8â™  . The board came 9♦ 10♥ 8♦ 6â™  4â™  , and GringoBrasil had been eliminated in seventh.

Just two hands after that it folded around to Lauren “locoencabeza” Kling on the button who shoved all in for 74,024. Lucky$pirit called the raise with the 40,611 he had left from the SB, and Lodden folded from the big blind.

Lucky$pirit: J♣ 9♣
locoencabeza: A♦ 2♦

The flop came 7â™  A♥ 3♣ , further securing Kling’s lead. The turn brought the 8♥ and straight hopes for Lucky$pirit. But the river was the 6♥ and they were down to five.

A couple of orbits after that the blinds were 4,500/9,000 when Kling was opening with an all-in raise once more, this time for 95,260 from the cutoff seat. One player called, ~shpongle99~ from the small blind, turning over A♥ 9♦ to locoencabeza’s K♥ 7♥ . The board brought neither player a pair, coming 2♥ 4â™  Q♦ 5♦ 10â™  , and ace-high beat king-high to send Kling out in fifth.

“Just got fifth in the 1k on stars,” tweeted Kling afterwards. “Feels good to be doing well online again, but now it’s time to win a TCOOP!” There are still 23 more events left in the Turbo Championship of Online Poker, so Kling has several more shots at grabbing one of those shiny gold-plated card cappers.

With four remaining it was still Lodden leading with 754,308, ~shpongle99~ next with 598,062, AlexeyKID in third with 473,506, and PIUlimeira last with 399,124.

All were relatively deep, with even PIUlimeira still with just under 45 big blinds. PIUlimeira would lose a few chips over the next few hands, though, and a hand soon arose in which PIUlimeira’s tourney life would be at risk.

In that one AlexeyKID opened for 27,000 (3x) from the small blind, PIUlimeira reraised to 69,989 from the big blind, AlexeyKID made it 162,000, PIUlimeira shoved for 324,899 total, and AlexeyKID called. AlexeyKID had 3♦ 3♣ and PIUlimeira A♦ Q♣ , and five cards later — 2♣ 5â™  7â™  J♦ 6♦ — PIUlimeira was out in fourth.

The remaining three played a few hands during which their chip stacks drew nearly even for a time, then ~shpongle99~ slipped back under 420,000 while Lodden pushed over 940,000 and AlexeyKID neared the 870,000 chip-mark.

Then came a hand in which Lodden made a 2x raise to 20,000 from the button, then ~shpongle99~ reraised to 53,400 from the small blind. AlexeyKID stepped aside, then Lodden made it 114,290 to go. ~shpongle99~ then pushed all in for 411,331 total, and Lodden called.

Lodden had 10♥ 10♣ and ~shpongle99~ Aâ™  K♥ . The board came 9♦ 4♣ Q♦ 3â™  8â™  , meaning Lodden’s tens were still best and ~shpongle99~ had to settle for a third-place finish.

The Team Pro had the edge to start heads-up play, with Lodden sitting at 1,367,247 to AlexeyKID’s 857,753.

Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden

Over the first few hands Lodden would increase his lead to about a 3-to-1 advantage, but AlexeyKID chipped back and then grabbed the lead following a big preflop all-in hand in which AlexeyKID’s Aâ™  10♥ outdrew Lodden’s A♦ J♥ . Take a look:

From there AlexeyKID maintained the lead, and sat with a little over 1.34 million to Lodden’s 876,994 when the final hand took place.

With the blinds at 6,000/12,000, AlexeyKID made it 36,000 from the button, then Lodden reraised to 96,000. AlexeyKID then pushed it up to 636,000, and Lodden shoved all in, getting a call from AlexeyKID.

Again Lodden had his opponent dominated with A♥ Q♥ versus AlexeyKID’s Aâ™  10â™  . But the flop came 10♣ 6♥ 5â™  to pair AlexeyKID. The turn was the 2♦ and the river the 10♥ , improving AlexeyKID further to trip tens and suddenly ending the tournament nearly 10 hours after it had begun.
