Home / News / Wistern celebrates 25th birthday with special week on the PokerStars Twitch channel

October 10th, 1997.

Elton John’s Candle in the Wind topped the charts. The psychological thriller Kiss the Girls, starring Morgan Freeman, was the biggest movie. Stu Ungar was the reigning World Series of Poker Main Event champion.

And over in Køge, Denmark, Lasse Lauritsen, now better known by his PokerStars screen name “Wistern”, was born.

The PokerStars Ambassador, Twitch streamer and poker pro turns 25 years old today (happy birthday, Wistern!) and to celebrate, there’s a very special week of streaming planned on the PokerStars Twitch channel.

If you’ve yet to catch a Wistern stream, you’ll usually find him on his WisternJL channel playing everything from low to high-stakes tournaments on PokerStars, interacting with his loyal community, and in his own words, “drinking coffee and talking about the most random stuff.”

Wistern took part in some of the PokerStars player activities away from the tables

But due to his age, Wistern has yet to appear on our central channel…until now.

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday, October 11) Wistern will be streaming alongside fellow PokerStars Team Pro Nick Walsh on the PokerStars Twitch channel. Tuesday’s stream will see the pair play some Kick-Off, while on Wednesday (October 12), it’ll be all about Spin & Go’s.

Then on Thursday (October 13), the two will play a full MTT schedule, headlined by a special birthday tournament with $25,000 guaranteed in prizes that will take place on the Global PokerStars client.

Viewers of the PokerStars Twitch channel can now expect to see Wistern more frequently, grinding alongside the likes of Walsh, Sebastian “peace&loove” Huber, Mason “pyefacepoker” Pye, and Georgina “GJReggie” James.

We first met Wistern in August this year, when he attended his first maiden poker event at EPT Barcelona.

Unfortunately, his first live poker tournament wasn’t without a few slip-ups.

“I’m definitely enjoying live poker and I plan to play a lot more in the future.”

“It was so embarrassing,” Wistern told us. “The first thing I did was sit down at the table and put out my blind, but I didn’t realise there was a big blind ante. The dealer drags in my blind and in my head I was like, hey! That’s my big blind! Then I realised I had to put another blind in.

“Right after that, I threw out a 500 chip to raise (the blinds were 100/200) but I didn’t announce it, so it was a call. I looked like a fool! These are things you just get used to. Counting chips and working out bet sizes, eventually, you just know it and you get a good feel for it. I’m definitely enjoying live poker and I plan to play a lot more in the future.”

Make sure you join Wistern and Walsh all week on the PokerStars Twitch channel.
