Home / Uncategorized / Weekend Review: EPT says goodbye, WestCliff21 cashes in

It’s Monday, and we’re scattered all over the place. You’ll forgive us if we smell like jet fuel and desperation. The end (of the year, of the EPT, of our collective sanity) is nigh, and it’s already been a big week.

But let’s recap that weekend first.

WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS

* European Poker Tour hosts its last event
* Austrian denies Brazilian a Sunday Million three-peat
* Weekend majors pay big

THE EPT’S LONG GOODBYE

After 13 seasons, the European Poker Tour is about to hang up its banner. When we hit 2017, the era of the PokerStars Championship will begin. That means this trip to Prague is the last time you will hear about the EPT in its modern form.

As things stand today, there are two major events playing at the same time. We have teams of strong young men in the field covering both. The €50,000 Super High Roller is in its second day. You can read live coverage of that right here. Meanwhile, the Eureka Prague Main Event is in Day 3. Live coverage of that one is playing out in this space.

Oh, and if you missed it over the weekend, the first event of the last EPT was a €10,000 High Roller. Stefan Schillhabel won that one for €248,046.

NEAR THREE-PEAT

Over in the online world, Kristin Bihr was keeping tabs on the Sunday Million for us. She almost had history on her hands as two-time Sunday Million winner Guilherme “VinceVegaMFR” Cheveau made the final table. If he’d managed to win, he would’ve been the first person to ever win the Milly three times.

Instead, as Bihr wrote in her final report of the night, Austria’s WestCliff21 took it wire-to-wire for the $142,335 win.
