Home / Uncategorized / veeea for victory in 4/2/13 Super Tuesday, earns $112,833

Another big group turned out this week for the Super Tuesday, PokerStars’ weekly $1,050 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament. The 597 who showed up created a prize pool of $597,000 — nearly twice the $300K guarantee — and when play completed about 10 hours and 15 minutes after the tourney began, it was veeea of Russia earning the win and handsome $112,833 first prize.

It would take more than five hours to reach the cash, and with 72 players left it was Andras “probirs” Nemeth in first position with about 167,000, followed by nearest challenger Chris “Moorman1” Moorman. Also still with chips at that point was Team PokerStars Pro Toni Judet sitting just inside the top 40.

By the seven-and-a-half-hour mark, 72 had become 18. By then veeea had claimed the top spot with more than 360,000, and pehta30 and Heartthrob10 occupied the next two spots with about 240,000 chips each. Judet was still hanging in there as well, lodged in the middle of the pack with a stack of about 180,000 (just above average).

Among those having cashed to that point were Joshua “bbbbb33” Weizer (66th, $1,970.10), Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet (60th, $2,089.50), Jeff “jeff710” Hakim (59th, $2,089.50), Matias “Festivuss” Gabrenja (53rd, $2,388), Steve “mcnallyville” McNally (52nd, $2,388), Randal “RandALLin” Flowers (49th, $2,388), Jonas “donut604” Mackoff (45th, $2,686.50), Russell “rdcrsn” Carson (37th, $2,686.50), Chris “Moorman1” Moorman (28th, $2,985), and Alexander “Schildy1984” Debus (22nd, $3,582).

Play continued, with WithoutFishS (18th) and Benson “BBOY3110” Nikkerson (17th) the next two players to fall. A little after that it was Judet finding himself down under 20 big blinds and shoving all in with 5♣ 5♥ only to run into the J♥ J♦ of Heartthrob10.

The flop came 4♦ 6♣ 7♣ to give Judet a straight draw, but the turn was the K♦ and river the A♠ , and Judet was out in 16th. Like WithoutFishS and BBOY3110 the Romanian earned $4,776 for his finish.

As the next half-dozen eliminations occurred, Andras “probirs” Nemeth once again moved into the lead by amassing more than 700,000 chips, although veeea was close by in second position with a challenging stack of more than 650,000. Bostero10 (15th), Be@trixKiddo (14th), and 3/19/13 Super Tuesday winner Pollopopeye (13th) each took away $5,970 for their finishes, while choppermen2 (12th), Ariel “ArielBahia” Celestino (11th), and 11DEJANEIRO (10th) earned $7,164 apiece.

After almost nine hours of poker, this week’s Super Tuesday final table had begun.

Seat 1: Heartthrob10 (Brazil) — 113,366
Seat 2: BoskoRock (United Kingdom) — 138,423
Seat 3: pehta30 (Slovenia) — 82,012
Seat 4: veeea (Russia) — 652,949
Seat 5: José “joserivas397” Rivas (Venezuela) — 265,107
Seat 6: miraclecake (Sweden) — 438,896
Seat 7: MakeItReign (Canada) — 397,743
Seat 8: Andras “probirs” Nemeth (Hungary) — 719,655
Seat 9: Apotheosis92 (Canada) — 176,849

About five minutes after the nine-hour break, the blinds were 4,000/8,000 when veeea opened for 16,000 from middle position and got a single caller in Heartthrob10 from the big blind.

The flop came K♦ 5♠ 10♥ and Heartthrob10 checked. veeea continued for 15,300, and Heartthrob10 called. The turn was the 2♦ and once more Heartthrob10 checked. This time veeea bet 30,996, and Heartthrob10 responded by check-raising all in for 74,566. veeea called the shove.

Heartthrob10 had 10♦ 9♣ for tens while veeea had A♣ Q♥ for ace-high and a gutshot straight draw. Then fifth street brought the Q♣ , pairing veeea and sending Heartthrob10 out in ninth place.

Four hands later, Andras “probirs” Nemeth open-raised to 16,745 from early position, then Apotheosis92 reraised all in to 138,949 total. Next to act was BoskoRock — winner of the Super Tuesday a little over a year ago — who promptly reraised all in as well for more than 285,000. Everyone else folded, including Nemeth.

Apotheosis92 showed 8â™  8♦ , but BoskoRock had Q♥ Qâ™  . The Kâ™  Aâ™  7â™  flop didn’t help Apotheosis92, then the Q♣ fell on the turn to give BoskoRock an unbeatable set. The 4â™  on the river then gave both players flushes, but BoskoRock’s was best and Apotheosis92 was eliminated in eighth place.

It would take about 40 more minutes for the next to fall. As the blinds bumped up during that period to 5,000/10,000, MakeItReign’s stack went down to seventh position out of seven. Then a hand arose in which MakeItReign opened for 20,000 from early position, then it folded to veeea in the small blind who by then had moved into the chip lead. veeea shoved as a reraise, and when it folded back to MakeItReign the call came quickly.

MakeItReign had been dealt Aâ™  Qâ™  , but veeea had woken up with A♦ A♥ . The board rolled out 4â™  9♥ 8♦ A♣ 5â™  , and MakeItReign typed “nh” just before vanishing from the table with a seventh-place finish.

The charge had begun for veeea, who by now had more than 1.2 million while pehta30 was the next closest with just under 350,000.

Soon veeea was raising 2x to 24,000 from under the gun, then former chip leader Andras “probirs” Nemeth reraised all in for 268,827 from the button. The blinds folded, then veeea called, showing A♦ 10♦ while Nemeth turned over K♥ J♥ .

The board came A♥ 7♦ 4♥ , then Qâ™  , then 9â™  , and veeea’s pair of aces were best. They were down to five.

A little later they’d crossed the 10-hour mark when veeea min-raised again to 24,000, then José “joserivas397” Rivas reraised all in for 118,330 from a seat over. It folded over to pehta30 in the big blind who called, and veeea stepped aside.

pehta30: A♥ K♥
joserivas397: A♠ Q♣

The five community cards came 4â™  4♦ 5♦ 3â™  K♣ , and Rivas — who final tabled this tournament two weeks ago (finishing third) — had seen his Super Tuesday run end in fifth place this week.

veeea kept adding chips, however, and before long was up over 2 million while miraclecake and BoskoRock hovered around 350,000 and pehta30 slipped down below 150,000.

The blinds moved up to 7,000/14,000, and pehta30 opened a hand by raising to 28,000 from UTG. It folded around to BoskoRock who pushed all in from the big blind for more than 340,000, and pehta30 called all in with the 127,572 left behind.

BoskoRock had A♦ 7♦ while pehta30 turned over K♦ 10♦ . The flop was Q♥ 6♦ 3♦ and turn Q♣ , and pehta30 was still in need of improvement to survive. Alas for pehta30, the river was the 3♣ , and pehta30 was knocked out in fourth.

Eight hands later, they were still in Level 37 (7,000/14,000/1,750) when veeea raised to 30,100 from the small blind, then miraclecake reraised all in for 340,502 from the big blind and veeea called. veeea showed A♥ J♣ while miraclecake was hoping 10♦ 10â™  wouldn’t crumble. But the flop came 3â™  Aâ™  9♥ to give veeea a better pair, and after the 8♥ turn and Qâ™  river, miraclecake was done in third.

Heads-up play began with veeea way out in front with 2,537,052 to BoskoRock’s 447,948 — a better than 5-to-1 chip advantage. They’d play three small-pot hands with little change to their stacks, then the final hand arrived.

It began with a min-raise to 28,000 from the button by BoskoRock, followed by a three-bet to 66,885 by veeea. BoskoRock then pushed all in for 405,948 total and veeea called.

BoskoRock was at risk with Qâ™  J♣ versus veeea’s A♦ 8♦ . The flop came 3♦ A♥ 4♥ to give veeea aces and reduce BoskoRock’s hopes even further. The turn then brought the 6♥ , which made the 3♣ river a final bit of trivia to record. BoskoRock’s Super Tuesday run had ended one spot shy of the win BoskoRock had earned a year ago, while veeea had grabbed the last of the chips to become this week’s winner.
