The best value Blowout Series events between now and the finale
Perhaps the holidays distracted you. Or working on those new year’s resolutions. Or maybe, like a player nursing a short stack, you were just waiting for the right hand to come along to go all-in.
If you’ve been waiting for a chance to jump into The Blowout Series, the time is now. Just one week remains in the PokerStars series. However with a packed schedule of tournaments firing each day, there are many choices between now and the series’ final day next Tues., Jan. 19.
Throughout the series the big Sunday events with $5 million guarantees have grabbed headlines. There is one more coming — The Big Blowout on Sun., Jan. 17 at 13:05 ET.
But there are also a number of other tournaments with great value still on the schedule as well. Here’s a rundown of a few good ones, including information about satellites for each.
Blowout Series 68-M: $109 NLHE [Progressive KO, Freezeout, Mini Thursday Thrill SE], $350K Gtd.
Date: Thursday, Jan. 14
Time: 13:05 ET
This $109 buy-in progressive knockout tournament sports a $350K guaranteed prize pool. It’s called the “Mini Thursday Thrill,” but there’s maximum value here.
As with other PKO tournaments, you can profit in two ways in this one — finishing deep and gathering bounties. Everyone starts with a $50 bounty, and with each knockout players scoop half that amount with the other half increasing their own bounties. Thus the bounties get bigger and bigger as you go.
Event 68-M Satellites
Between now and tourney time (and even a little after), there are hourly satellites running for this event. They come even more quickly on Thursday as the event gets underway.
Most of the satellites are $5.50 to play, with a few $11 and $22. They award from 5 to 40 seats. Check the full schedule in the tournament lobby.
Blowout Series 78-M: $109 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO, Saturday KO SE], $350K Gtd.
Date: Saturday, Jan. 16
Time: 13:05 ET
A similar set-up here — $109 buy-in, $350K guaranteed prize pool, and progressive knockout bounties to collect for extra value. One difference, though — this event has up to three re-entries available as well.
Last Saturday’s version of this tournament drew a whopping 6,875 entries, pushing the prize pool up close to $700K.
Event 78-M Satellites
Again, check out these same-day satellites to get in cheap:
- Sat., Jan. 16, 11:30 ET — $5.50 buy-in, 30 seats awarded
- Sat., Jan. 16, 12:15 ET — $11 buy-in, 40 seats awarded

Coming the next-to-last day of the series is this two-day event with a $109 buy-in and a cool $500K guaranteed prize pool.
