SCOOP Main Events through bubble, as Benitez wins battle of the Uruguayans

BEHIND THE HEADLINES
Main Events blitz guarantees: Registration closed on all three SCOOP Main Events last night, which then played into the money. And there was lots of it. Players arrived in their droves for all three tournaments, busting through the guarantees and building some enormous prize pools. See “Main Event Updates” below for more details.
Francisco “Tomatee” Benitez: Won battle of the Uruguayans
Uruguay’s heroes chop Second Chance high: Poker in Uruguay is dominated by two absolute behemoths of the online game: Francisco “Tomatee” Benitez and Ramiro “ramastar88” Petrone, both of whom feature repeatedly in all major tournament round-ups. By their standards, SCOOP 2022 had been relatively quiet, but last night they ended up heads-up at the end of the $5K SCOOP 100-H Main Event 2nd Chance, taking a combined $220K back to South America. In all likelihood, Benitez and Petrone know all about one another’s games and opted to chop it when they got heads-up, with Benitez going in to claim the win and a third SCOOP career title. Petrone picked up a second runner-up finish for the year, but both had six figures each to celebrate — officially $110,521 for Benitez and $109,450 for Petrone.
Estrada denies Gusma, adds another for Andorra: On Sunday night, SCOOP had three female champions as the Women’s Event debuted in this annual series, and last night Soraya “railerita” Estrada added another — but this time in a huge open event, where she destroyed a super tough field of 309 mostly male entries. Estrada, who is one of the growing Spanish contingent playing from Andorra, won the $2K buy-in PKO Sunday Warm-Up, which came with a prize of $50,844. She added another $50,738 in bounties for a $101,582 haul — all from a $109 satellite entry. Estrada beat Pedro “gusmaa” Gusma heads-up, denying him a second title of the series (he has two runner-up finishes). It’s often difficult to know whether players are male or female based on screen-name alone, but Estrada is “out”, so to speak, and posts on Pocket Fives, which confirms she has $1.6 million in online career tournament earnings. This latest six-figure score is the second largest of her career so far — and it was cheered over the line by Spanish Twitch streamers, watching every step of the way.

Alex “Schildy1984” Debus: A SCOOP winner at last
Debus debuts on SCOOP winners’ board: Before last night, Alex ”Schildy1984″ Debus had two WCOOP titles, among numerous other accolades, but had drawn a blank in SCOOP. But the Austrian made the most of the so-called “2nd Chance” and won the $530 buy-in Main Event 2nd Chance event (SCOOP 100-M) for a $70,164 score and a first SCOOP title. There were 827 entries to this turbo, which played through in six-and-a-half hours. The “low” version went to Brazil’s “Cabeca Rush”, who also won during SCOOP last year. Cabeca Rush won the $109 Deep Stacks in SCOOP 2021, and last night’s double up came with a $39,147 prize.
Gogac sniper in the zone: It was a fine night last night for Austria’s “Gogac sniper”, who not only won one event, but also progressed to the deep stages of at least two others, and picked up three further cashes. The event they won was SCOOP 93-H: $530 NLHE Sunday Kickoff, which came with a first prize of $81,087. But there are significantly larger riches in store if things continue to run so smoothly on Tuesday night. Gogac sniper sits second in the $55 Phase event, where there’s a $1m+ prize pool (and “bencb789” in third); and ninth of 40 left in $10K SCOOOP Main Event. That’s in addition to a cash in the $1K Main (in 321st place), in the $215 Sunday Warm-Up (36th) and in the $530 Main Event 2nd chance (64th). That’s a lot of tables and a lot of success, who has previous form for winning in batches.
MAIN EVENT UPDATES:
The SCOOP Main Events are officially enormous, with a late flurry of entries as registration closed last night pushing the prize pools further past their guarantees. In all, Main Event players are contesting more than $13.5 million — $6.5 million in the high, $4.4 million in the medium and $2.5 million in the low. It means someone is going to pick up $1.14 million for winning the $10K event, while someone is going to turn a $109 buy-in into $259K in the low.
Yesterday was all about the bubble, covered in forensic detail on the PokerStars Twitch channel. It was a drawn-out affair with multiple double-ups, until Finland’s “zerodeda” was indeed deda with zero in the $10K. That guaranteed everyone else $23K at least. Ben “bencb789” Rolle was the lone Red Spade in the money in the High, which paused overnight with Henrik “hhecklen” Hecklen leading the pack.
Lex Veldhuis, Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot and Rafael “GM_VALTER” Moraes cashed the medium, but are all now out, and there’s no Red Spade involvement in the low either, where Talbot, Steve Enriquez, Lex and Spraggy all min-cashed.
