It’s Main Event day! The biggest tournaments of this extended Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) all get under way. But that’s not all. Get the full lowdown from the SCOOP tables…

BEHIND THE HEADLINES
Watson goes one-two: There are clubs, there are exclusive clubs and then there is the one-two club. Last night, Mike “SirWatts” Watson, of Canada, became the latest member of the latter: winning an event at the same time as he was finishing runner up in another. On the one hand, it’s cruel not to close out two at the same time. But on the other, it’s just a staggering achievement whatever way you look at it. Watson resumed today with the chip lead in both the $1,050 8-Game and the $2,100 NLHE event, and clung on all the way in the hold’em. Watson’s second victory during this festival, his fifth in SCOOP since 2015, earned him another $80,642 and came after beating “hotmark777” of Lebanon heads up. Watson wins one, runner up in another
…Brilliant Boeken denies Watson: Noah “Exclusive” Boeken has been a stalwart of European poker reporting for more than 15 years. He won on the EPT in its first season, joined Team PokerStars Pro shortly afterwards, won his first (of two) WCOOP titles in 2011, and his first SCOOP title in 2013 (among countless other online accolades). Boeken is still going at the very highest level and last night won the $1,050 8-Game championship, denying Mike Watson at the last. Luke “lb6121” Schwartz was at another final, as what Lebanon’s “kimokh” and Germany’s “nilsef”. But it came down to Boeken vs. Watson at the final reckoning, with the Dutch veteran outlasting the Canadian. Boeken picked up $38,494.94 for this one.

João “IneedMassari” Simão: another title
Simão with another: João “IneedMassari” Simão has been as high as No 1 on the Pocket Fives world rankings of online players, and has documented earnings of more than $9.2 million across all sites. It points to a formidable game, particularly in big-field NLHE tournaments. Last night, however, Simão rose to the top of the 194-entry no limit Omaha hi/lo event (or NLO8), winning the second SCOOP title of his career. Simão’s first came in 2018, in a PLO Win The Button event, which means he saves his four-card best for the major festivals. Simão won $38,694.35.
Kami “drkamikaze1” Chisholm: A second SCOOP title
Chisholm chops down stars: It may have only cost $11 to enter, but the top stars played the NLO8 6-Max and two of the last three in the 5,432-entry field were Tobias “Senkel92” Leknes and Naoya “nkeyno” Kihara, otherwise known as two of the very best in the tournament game. However, they were no match for a less heralded, but no less formidable opponent in the form of Kami “drkamikaze1” Chisholm. We first encountered Chisholm in 2012, when she won her first SCOOP title in Badugi. The second, in this NLO8, earned a further $7,574.88 and a second outright victory in this major festival.
Chopping it six ways: The biggest deal of SCOOP 2020 so far took place in the $22 buy-in NLHE overnight, in which the last six of the 13,743 players decided to chop it up. There were two Brits, and a player each from Kazakhstan, Brazil, Slovenia, and Germany who agreed to give the most money to the South American. “yteruia” took $23,877.81 back to Brazil. However, when they played it out it was “whufcmk” of the UK who took the title — a player most likely from somewhere in East London, if his username is anything to go by. The whufc could well be West Ham United football club (though the team hasn’t won much in the way of titles of late).
Fintan “easywithaces” Hand: Second in chips
Hand goes for title: Twitch viewers will be spoiled for choice for content tonight with the Main Event starting and everyone who’s anyone streaming it on their channels. But you might want to start with Fintan “easywithaces” Hand, who surely offers the best chance of bagging some silverware. The PokerStars Ambassador is second in chips, of 31 remaining, in the $1,050 buy-in Afternoon Deep Stack, which started Saturday. There’s $73,652.88 up top and a field of bosses to navigate. Canada’s “RPILON” leads, with EPT champion Ognjan “cocojamb0” Dimov in fourth, poker writer Michael “M_Acevedo Acevedo in sixth, two-time WSOP Main Event final table player Antoine “A.Saout” Saout, in 10th, EPT champion Tom “hitthehole” Middleton in 11th, and Igor “lechuckpoker” Kurganov in 18th. Among others. The tournament resumes at 1pm ET.

GJReggie heads back into action: Here’s a shout-out too to streamer Georgina “GJReggie” James, who has also made a Day 2. You can follow James’s progress in the $11 Afternoon Deep Stack when she resumes in 90th of 353 remaining in SCOOP-69-L. There’s a whopping $18,299 up top in that, which is staggering for an $11 buy-in tournament. James can be found at https://www.twitch.tv/gjreggie
Don’t miss the Main Events! It’s absurd how big the SCOOP Main Events are today. There’s a guarantee of $3.5 million on the $109 low buy-in event, and $5 million on each of the medium and high buy-in versions, with $1,050 and $10,300 buy-ins. It’s not just any old Sunday. It’s SCOOP Main Event Sunday, which means an absolute raft of major tournaments get started including guaranteed prize pools of $13 million across the three price points of the Main Event.
