SCOOP 2014: “0PIGGYBANK” banks a whopping $195K at Event #24-H ($1,050+R, 6-max, PLO)

Say the words “PLO”, “6-max”, “Tournament” and “Turbo” in the same sentence and most players are already thinking “well, how fast can I win?” and “do I have enough cash for rebuys?”. The answer tonight to the first question was three hours and 48 minutes making Event #24-H with a $300,000 guarantee one of the quickest ways to capture a SCOOP champion’s watch and a six-figure score to boot. Yes, this tournament was not for the faint of heart nor light of wallet as 298 players managed to throw in an additional 342 rebuys and 248 add-ons at a thousand bucks a pop. The final six would battle for just over 30 minutes before avatars started to leave. In the next eight minutes and under a dozen hands,”0PIGGYBANK” would go from a shorter stack to SCOOP title holder banking $195,360.00 as tonight’s winner.

Team PokerStars Pro George Danzer already has three SCOOP titles to his name and nearly captured number four during Friday’s Event #17-H. Tonight, he would be last Red Spade standing after finishing just outside of the 36 paying spots in 45th place.

While it took under two and half hours to 260 of the 298 players, as the tournament approached the money, $5,772.00 for 36th, the players who dumped cash on thousand dollar rebuys tightened up a bit with hopes that someone else would take the loss. TheHood reached the SCOOP 2012 Event #36-M final table, also PLO 6-max tournament, taking down $34K in third place. Tonight however, TheHood would ride away penniless as the remaining 36 players locked up at least $5,772.00 which hopefully paid for the rebuys and add-ons and a shot at the $195,360.00 sitting up top.

Among those cashing in were Super Tuesday winner NigDawG (36th place, $5,772.00), Sausuke234 (29th place, $6,660.00) who almost claimed a watch in last year’s Event #25-H as a runner-up to Jarcon86, and KingOfThe$ea (21st place, $7,992.00) nearly grabbing a Sunday Warm-Up win in December but settled nicely for $165K instead as the runner-up.

It would only take 15 minutes for the exodus of the all the players hanging on to cash and those who would eat up those chips as the field shrunk from 36 to 12. 0Human0 gave grphn a rude exit after cracking grphn’s aces A♣ A♦ 5♣ 10♥ preflop with 5♥ 2♦ 4♣ A♥ that hit two pair on the 9♦ 2♥ 4♠ K♦ 8♦ board. After shipping $13,764.00 to ArielSpivack and grphn in 11th and 12th place, ten players would get five minutes of rest during the third hourly break with a big pay jump from $13,764.00 in tenth to locking up $35,520.00 at the final table of six.

Table three certainly had experience at it with two players, EPT Season 10 Player of the Year Ole “wizowizo” Schemion and 0Human0, sporting Supernova stars while Supernova Elite Christer “lennart” Johansson would be looking for another final table during the 2014 SCOOP series after placing sixth in Event #5-M and third in Event #12-H. Mayu “marroca5” Roca would be cleaning up on the adjacent table. Roca already has a WCOOP victory in 2011 and a SCOOP watch from 2012.

And Roca would get a shot at SCOOP title number two tonight as the blinds moved up to 20K/40K Unkn0wn123 would raise to 120,000 from the small blind as supernova9 made the call to see a couple of ladies on the Q♥ 9♥ Q♣ flop. Unkn0wn123 put out another 200,000 as supernova9 called all-in for less holding K♠ 6♣ Q♦ 8♦ . Unkn0wn123 showed a pair of nines that improved to trip nines on the turn 9♣ , but no more with the river 3♣ . The scraps of Unkn0wn123 would go away on the next hand as our final six combined below:

This should go quickly

Ole “wizowizo” Schemion quickly went to work raising nearly every hand and taking down 13 of the first 16 hands, mostly without incident. Then, the 17th hand featured Mayu “marroca5” Roca picking up 9♥ Q♥ J♣ Q♣ on the button facing Schemion’s aces 6♦ K♦ A♦ A♥ for a 821,412 chip pot with the blinds up to 50K/100K. The flopped straight draw would connect on the turn 3♠ 10♠ 8♦ 7♥ 4♠ sending Roca the pot.

That set off three hands in a row with all-ins but all six players still fighting as the drop off between first and sixth place would buy a small home. Then, with the blinds up to 100K/200K Christer “lennart” Johansson would shove all-in from the button for 341,216 holding Q♦ Q♥ 7♠ 9♥ but Dani “supernova9” Stern was not giving up the big blind and called with aces A♣ A♦ 4♦ K♣ . The aces would notch a boat on the 5♠ 5♥ 8♦ 3♦ A♠ board sending Johansson $35,520.00 in sixth place.

Here comes Mr. Roca

Three hands after doubling through Stern, Roca would attempt to pick off jpro89 who was all-in for 32,992. No one matched the 532,992 raise and Roca’s Q♠ 8♣ 5♥ 9♠ looked to defeat jpro89’s 8♦ 4♥ J♥ A♣ . jpro89 would whiff on the flopped straight draw 10♦ 9♣ K♦ 4♣ 10♣ as Mayu’s nines was plenty to take down the small pot, but more importantly knockout jpro89 in fifth place ($53,280.00).

Ole is no more

Despite jumping out to a big lead at the final table, Ole “wizowizo” Schemion could not win the all-ins against the shortstacks and eventually became one himself. On the next hand from jpor89’s departure, the blinds moved up to 125K/250K and this time it was Roca’s chance to knockout Schemion. Ole would shove from the cutoff for 433,692 chips as it folded around to Roca in the big blind holding 5♦ K♣ 10♠ 3♠ . The WCOOP and SCOOP champ would make the call facing Schemion’s 9♦ K♥ J♥ 6♣ . Despite flopping a straight draw and turning a flush draw, Schemion could not connect enough on the 10♦ 4♥ Q♠ 3♥ Q♦ board taking home $71,040.00 in fourth place.

Money coming to the bank

“0PIGGYBANK” picked good spots up to this point as the wild finish with the most money on the line took the least amount of time. On the next hand Stern would shove from the button for 695,068 as “0PIGGYBANK” made the call from the big blind holding a lot of aces 7♣ A♣ A♥ A♠ . Stern’s coordinated 10♣ J♣ 7♦ Q♣ looked like it somehow had to connect with the J♦ 4♦ K♦ 2♥ 5♣ board but failed to do so, finishing in third place on the next hand against Roca for $102,120.00

Fast dash to the cash

31 minutes of final table play before Stern would knockout Johansson in sixth place. It would only take eight minutes and nine hands to determine a SCOOP champion and the massive $195,360.00 prize. Briefly the yellow information box about pausing for a deal popped up on the screen but “0PIGGYBANK” and Roca put those thoughts aside quickly as they shoved 2.64 million chips into the middle preflop. Roca holding 7♥ K♦ 8♣ A♥ and “0PIGGYBANK” showed a double suited 9♦ 4♦ Q♣ A♣ for the near $60K difference between first and second. Despite flopping the nut flush draw, Roca would watch the chips go the other way 8♥ 2♣ Q♥ J♦ Q♠ giving “0PIGGYBANK” a 2.64 million to 516K chip advantage.

The near $60K gamble would go “0PIGGYBANK”‘s way as the 7♦ Q♣ J♣ 6♦ connected on the flush draw 5♦ K♦ 9♣ 10♣ 3♦ to defeat Roca’s 9♠ 6♥ A♦ 3♥ and win $195,360.00 as the SCOOP Event #24-H champion!
