While you were enjoying Turbo Series this past month, players across the Channel were setting records in the Southern Europe Carnaval Series.

The 166-event Carnaval Series wrapped up earlier this month, with more than 34,500 players from across Spain, France and Portugal taking part.

Some €11,233,484 was awarded in prize money over two weeks of poker, a total that topped the initial €10 million guarantee.

It brings the total prize money awarded by PokerStars since launching a shared player pool in France and Spain in January 2018, to more than €75 million.

For the record, French players proved most successful, followed by Spanish and Portuguese.

The Highlights from Carnaval

MEGACHIPLEADER1 topped a field of 3,905 in the €250 Main Event. That was worth €123,376 from the €1 million guaranteed prize pool.

Other Carnaval Series events set the bar high.

The Masquerade tournament, which closed off the series, became PokerStars biggest ever €30 buy-in event in Southern Europe in terms of attendance, when 3,760 entries took part.

The Sunday Warm-Up, with a €225,000 guarantee, was another highlight.

The €50 buy-in encouraged more than 5,000 entries, which was bigger than all other Warm-Up events during the Series. Spanish player Vasudeva27 took that title, and a first prize of €30,000.

“To hit €75 million awarded in all of our shared liquidity series is an amazing achievement and we’d like to thank all the players in Southern Europe who have joined us at the felt over the past 13 months,” said Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations at The Stars Group. “Our Southern European series have been really well received and it’s great to see Carnaval carrying on this trend.”
