Home / Uncategorized / PS Women in December: Looking Toward 2013 and PCA

The last month of the year is often a time for reflection and relaxation. The live tournament poker circuit takes a break in the latter half of the month for the holidays, and though online poker thrives nonstop, the holidays are a time to look toward the New Year with goals, hopes, and positive changes in mind.

In addition to December serving as a chance to boost bankrolls and score that last win for 2012, many players looked toward 2013. Some were putting effort into winning a PS Women Live prize package in order to hit the Bahamas in January for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and others were simply soaking up the Women’s Poker League before the beginning of a new promotion set for 2013. So, let’s take a brief look at that final month of 2012.

Women’s Tournaments

The Women’s Tuesday proved to be a success in 2012 and continued right on through December. Some of the bigger prize pools happened in the beginning of the month when the $1K guarantee was left behind for larger amounts, such as when birx0000 of Estonia won $3335.43 for her December 11 victory. For $11, players are able to compete in the weekly No Limit Hold’em 6-max challenge.

Since 6-max events are becoming so popular, PokerStars Women is trying to meet the demand, as well as offer some higher buy-in events. Starting in January, players can look for daily Women’s Elite tournaments on the schedule. Every day, the Women’s Elite will offer a $5.50 NLHE 6-max event at 6:00 ET with a $150 guarantee and another at 14:00 ET with a $200 guarantee. They can be found in pink in the tournament lobby.

The Women’s Sunday found more success in December, as the weekly $55 NLHE tournament brought hundreds of players to the table each weekend with its $10K guarantee.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Poker League came to an end in December. Its final month found familiar names in the top 10 of the three divisions of the league, and players took home quite a bit of money for those finishes.

In response to player requests and in an effort to include more women in poker, a new promotion was put into place and formatted in December, with its official launch happening in January. The PokerStars Women’s Club will award weekly prizes and give players more opportunities to win more often. Details were just released in the first days of January.

Fatima on Survivor, Liv as a Physicist

The month of December held quite a bit of excitement for the members of Team PokerStars, and we were lucky enough to share some of their experiences through their articles.

Fatima Moreira de Melo of Team SportsStars talked about her experience on the television show Survivor. Besides starving, sleeping in sand, and dealing with insect bites, she also had to play a very strategic game in an effort to survive. Read about it here.

Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree talked about her training to be a physicist, as well as the world of physics past and present. She also discussed how the traits that make a successful career in that field pertain to poker. Her thoughts were put into words at EPT Prague in December.

Team Pro Vanessa Selbst took to South America for some travels and recounted her December trip to Machu Picchu. Fellow Team Pro Ana Marquez discussed her travels of prior months and the opportunity to spend some time with family. Friend of PokerStars Charlotte Van Brabander talked about her need for relaxation between a tough schedule of schooling and poker.

In the area of poker-related accomplishments, Team Pro Celina Lin topped the list of Macau memories of 2012, taking first place for her dual Macau Poker Cup titles. She not only made Macau poker history but set records that are respected by players around the world.

PCA Excitement

All the while, players were already looking forward to January when the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure would take place in the Bahamas. The 10th Anniversary of the PCA was on everyone’s minds, and Ana Marquez shared her memories of events past here. Liv Boeree then gave some assistance to players who needed to find excuses to take work vacations to spend time at PCA. In other words, she had some suggestions for lies.

It was quickly determined by the powers-that-be at PS Women that the PCA Main Event will be won by a woman. What was the formula used to come to that conclusion? See the intricate theory in this article.

Players from around the world were anxious to join the Team Pros in the Bahamas, and another five women won their $3,250 prize packages during the month of December. We look forward to seeing fergie56, thx4urchps99, drkamikaze1, and ZDarkLord, all traveling from Canada, as well as balticblonde from the UK. The Ladies Event is one of the most exciting tournaments of the year, and we can’t wait to see who takes it down!

Happy New Year from all of us at PokerStars Women!
