Another weekend has come to a close and that means this morning (more likely this afternoon) a swathe of big winners will wake up and remember that their bankrolls have rocketed with five- and six-digit scores. For some it will be their first big pay day, for others it’s just another successful Sunday grind. Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari falls into the latter category, this time last year he was winning the Sunday Warm-Up for more than $110,000. This weekend he had decent shots at both of the Sunday majors.

Andre Akkari

  • Brazilan Team PokerStars Pro Akkari came close in the Sunday Million finishing sixth for $46,830 while former World Champ – and fellow Team Pro – Joe Cada just missed out on the final table with a 13th place bust out for $6,244. Dutchman Tonaldinho11 took the title for an un-chopped $234,150 after topping a 7,805 field in the $215 buy-in event. Read the full report here.

  • Akkari also made the money in the Sunday Warm-Up where he crashed out in 66th for $1,254.26. MetalHelmet won that one taking $99,000 after beating Andrew ‘stato_1’ Hulme heads-up. A four-way deal paid Hulme out to the tune of $71,813.34.

  • Other weekend winners included Kevin ‘ImaLuckSac’ MacPhee, who won the $55 Saturday PLO H/L six-max for $3,841.15, and Calvin ‘cal42688’ Anderson, who took down the Sunday 2nd Chance for $47,119.80. Check out all the big weekend winners here.

  • Liv Boeree was (probably) playing the Sunday majors sat on a cardboard box using a fussball table to rest her laptop on. Rumours that she kept swearing at her boiler are thus far unsubstantiated.

  • Rafa Nadal played the Sunday Storm but couldn’t win a flip. (Insert your own tennis-based pun about life serving him up plenty of aces here).

  • A shout out should also be made to Bosnia’s Dejan Divkovic who won ANZPT Perth for A$114,000. Divkovic beat Japan’s Iori Yogo heads-up for the title.
