Well, that’s that. At noon today, the $100,000 Super High Roller registration desk battened down the hatches, and the 40-odd remaining players could start planning what they’d do with the massive prizes up for grabs. As they settle in for Day 2, 2013 EPT London High Roller Super High Roller champ, Martin Finger, is in the driving seat, with Max Altergott and Team Online’s Isaac Haxton nipping at his heels.
In 2013, a field of 43 (with 12 re-entries) generated a prize pool of $5,724,180, and this year’s Super High Rollers can expect a figure of the same magnitude. When all the necessary calculations have been made by the PokerStars bean-counters, we’ll bring you the prize pool figures in full.
In terms of size, this year’s field was up slightly to 46, when compared with last year, but with re-entries available for eight one-hour levels yesterday, and a chance for those who busted Day 1 to re-enter before action got under way today, that 46 figure only tells half the story.
Among those who decided to load extra bullets into the barrel, Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu, Cirque du Soliel gabillionaire, Guy LalibertĂ©, and John Juanda lead the way with two re-entries apiece. That’s $300,000 each.
Kid Poker has previous for this sort of thing. Last September, he turned a second chance into a second place finish at the €10,000 EPT Barcelona High Roller, and he’ll be hoping for more of the same this time around. Ahhh, news has just reached us that Negreanu’s third bullet has also gone. He’s out.
Those trailing messrs Negreanu, LalibertĂ© and Juanda on one reload each are Antonio Esfandiari, Cary Katz, Igor Kurganov, Paul Newey and Tobias Reinkemeier. And there was a last-minute addition to the field when Vladimir Schemelev managed to get his $100,000 fee into the kitty before today’s noon deadline.
