Home / News / MicroMillions Day 5: Fred Volpe draws victory, ‘Mika-Zika’ wins $9K-plus

MicroMillions 17 is now nearly two-thirds of the way done, with a big weekend coming up highlighted by the MicroMillions Main Event, a.k.a. the Sunday Storm 9th Anniversary.

The MicroMillions Main Event is an $11 no-limit hold’em tournament with a $1 million guarantee, and kicks off at 14:00 ET on Sunday, April 26. The winner is also guaranteed at least $100,000, meaning someone is going to make a lot for a little.

Speaking of, Day 5 of MicroMillions 17 featured several more examples of players doing just that.

Greece, Moldova, Serbia join list of countries with winners

When “georgie247” bested a 5,691-entry field in Day 5’s first tournament yesterday, Event No. 49 ($1.10 4-Max, 3-Stack), that gave Greece its first MicroMillions title of the series. “georgie247” took away a nice $797.13 first prize, not bad for a $1.10 investment.

Moldova also produced a champion yesterday in the second tournament of the day, Event No. 50 ($5.50 NLHE, Turbo, Progressive KO). “Clima89” was the winner, topping a field of 10,803 entries to win $4,077.09 total between the first-place prize and the bounties.

Finally add Serbia to the countries list as well after “Mika-Zika” took down Event No. 55. (More on that below.)

‘Mika-Zika’ grabs day’s biggest prize of $9K-plus

The $5.50 buy-in Event No. 55 was another NLHE Progressive KO event, and it featured the biggest prize pool of the day as 29,353 entries added up to $143,829.70 being awarded (nearly twice the $75K guarantee).

“Mika-Zika” ended up grabbing $6,056.36 for finishing first, plus another $3,075.32 in bounties to make it a better than $9K score. Those bounties were about 4-5 times more than anyone else managed to collect, showing again how much these Progressive Knockout tournaments reward those who can eliminate a lot of players (including that last big one).

Fred Volpe draws a victory

There was a familiar username among the list of winners as well — Fred “fred_volpe” Volpe of Brazil who took first after a heads-up deal in Event No. 56, the $5.50 buy-in 2-7 Triple Draw event.

We remember seeing Volpe on the Latin American Poker Tour, and the great Carlos Monti taking pictures of him such as the one below from Panama in 2014.

See below for all of Day 5’s champions.
