A fast day of play at the Atlantic City Casino in Lima, Peru has concluded and just eight players remain with hopes of claiming the next Latin American Poker Tour Main Event trophy. Of that group Patricio Rojas of Chile currently enjoys the chip lead with a stack of 2,165,000, but if today’s wild action is any indication, things can change in a hurry once play resumes tomorrow.

It took a little under six one-hour levels for the 27 who returned for Day 3 of the Season 6 LAPT Peru Main Event to play down to the final eight-handed table.

We began the day thinking about the night before and Julian Menendez’s fast finish to carry the chip lead into play today. Three quick eliminations brought the tourney down to 24 players, bringing each a little closer to the ultimate goal of becoming an LAPT champion.

As more hit the rail, Walid Mubarak of Peru became the first player over a million, and in fact led by a wide margin for a short while as the field was further trimmed to 17, the shouts of players adding to the excitement along the way.

Menendez would reclaim the lead for a while, then the Peruvian Victor Jesus Lay would jump in front himself after winning a big hand against Mubarak, one of a few conflicts between fellow countrymen that marked the afternoon.

They reached the final 16, and with each knockout the eliminated players began to earn more for their cashes as the tourney proceeded one step at a time toward the final table.

Mubarak would eventually find himself battling Lay once again, this time being eliminated and suddenly they were down to a dozen. Three more knockouts swiftly followed, including Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez in 12th, culminating another deep LAPT run for the Argentinian.

Finally a half-hour later Johann Ibanez bubbled the final table in ninth, and the early end of the day had arrived.

Rojas emerged during the last level as the chip leader with that stack of 2.1 million-plus, with Andrey Spitsyn, Victor Jesus Lay, Julian Menendez, and Ricardo Chauriye all with big stacks of their own and not too far behind.

Here’s how the stacks look and where everyone will be sitting when play resumes tomorrow.
