Online satellites for the legendary Irish Poker Open 2023–sponsored by PokerStars and Paddy Power–are now running on PokerStars. The festival runs from April 3-10 and takes place at the Royal Dublin Society in (you guessed it) Dublin, Ireland.

Satellites are online poker tournaments in which you can win entry to big live events. For the Irish Poker Open, that means you can play an online qualifier and win either a “seat only” package to the €1,150 buy-in, €1 million guaranteed Main Event, or a “seat + expenses” package valued at €1,500, giving you €350 to help take care of your travel and accommodation.

PokerStars is guaranteeing 23 entries to the event every single week in the lead-up to the Irish Poker Open, making this the most qualifiers PokerStars has ever sent to a live event.

Want to be one of them? Then let’s go through your satellite options.

What satellites are running?

Every week PokerStars is running four direct satellites* with buy-ins of €55 and €109 to the €1,150 buy-in Irish Poker Open 2023 Main Event.

But if those buy-ins are a bit steep for your bankroll, don’t worry. There are dozens of smaller feeder satellites* running for each direct satellite, so you could win your way to a seat for absolutely nothing.

Feeder satellite buy-ins begin with freebuys* and move up to €1.10, €5.50, €11 and €16.50. Finish in the top spots and you’ll book a seat in either a €55 or €109 direct satellite, where you’ll play for a package.

The following direct satellites are running every week on the .COM client:

  • Monday x5 Seat Only GTD
  • Wednesday x5 Seat + Expenses GTD
  • Friday x5 Seat Only GTD
  • Sunday x8 Seat + Expenses GTD

On Sunday, March 19 there will be a Mega satellite with 20x Seats + Expenses guaranteed.

Don’t miss that one!

* A direct satellite is a tournament in which the prizes are entries into a big target event.
*A feeder satellite is a smaller satellite in which the prizes are entries into the direct satellite.
*A freebuy tournament is a tournament that’s free to enter but allows rebuys should you get eliminated. In this case, the feeder satellite offers rebuys and add-ons for €0.05.

Satellite terms and conditions

Here are the T&Cs:

If you have won a single entry, you may win more than one Irish Poker Open 2023 Main Event seat and use these to re-enter if you wish, or you can transfer unused seats to another player – it is up to you!

However, all seats won MUST be played. Any unused seats not played will be forfeited and the value will be added to the prize pool.

When multiple seats are won by a player, they can be used in the following ways:

  • For re-entry, if you don’t make Day 2 on the first entry, you can try again (single re-entry per flight)
  • If you make Day 2, you can use multiple seats to play again and try to bag a bigger stack (best stack forward)
  • Your seat can be transferred to another player

About the Irish Poker Open

The Irish Poker Open has been a must-visit stop on any poker player’s travel list for decades.

It’s not just the incredible Dublin location or the festive community spirit that makes it essential on the international poker calendar, however. This is an event steeped in history.

The Irish Poker Open is the longest-running no limit hold’em tournament outside of Las Vegas, with a history dating back more than 42 years. It firmly established itself on the world stage in 1984, when 25 American players–including the legends Stu Ungar, Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson–made the journey to Dublin. That tournament was televised, the interest was huge, and the Irish Poker Open hasn’t slowed down since.

More recently, the likes of Steve O’Dwyer (who has lived in Dublin for the past 10 years) and PokerStars commentator Griffin Benger have taken down the Main Event. O’Dwyer, the reigning champ, beat a field of 2,040 entries in his home city to win the first-place prize of €318,700. The Main Event prize pool this year was close to €2 million, well surpassing the €1 Million Guaranteed which remains in place for the 2023 Main Event.

About the PokerStars sponsorship

PokerStars was delighted to announce it was teaming up with Paddy Power to sponsor the Irish Poker Open 2023.

This partnership not only means that satellites for the event will take place on both PokerStars and Paddy Power platforms, but that there will also be live streaming akin to what you see on the European Poker Tour (EPT).

Moreover, PokerStars will run an online Irish Poker Open series ahead of the event, details of which will be announced soon.

Paul O’Reilly and JP McCann, CEOs of The Irish Poker Open, said: “We are very proud to announce PokerStars and Paddy Power as the official sponsors of The Irish Poker Open and we are looking forward to bringing our players another epic Irish Open Poker Festival, whilst welcoming new players from around the globe!
