SORENSSON WINS SECOND-EVER POKER TOURNAMENT

At the PokerStars Championship Barcelona 2017 final table, most bets were on Andre Akkari, the PokerStars Team Pro looking to clinch his first EPT title, and Raffaele Sorrentino, the Italian seeking his second Main Event victory in five months.

But all of the 1,682 entries were ultimately denied by Sweden’s Sebastian Sorensson, an online qualifier playing only his second live tournament ever.

The warehouse worker won it all for €987,043.

“I’m still in disbelief,” he said, before going on to describe how overawed he was as he came into the huge Barcelona tournament room day-by-day as the monster field thinned but he was still involved. “When I got to the third day, I was, like what’s going on?”

The win became his first recorded cash on Hendon Mob.

GLOWNY WINS IN PRAGUE

Poland’s Grzegorz Glowny was an online grinder who had never played an EPT Main Event prior to EPT Prague in March 2022. He booked his seat via an online satellite and then ended up besting the 1,190-entry field to win €692,252.

It was only his second-ever live cash, the first coming from another event on the EPT Prague schedule that year.

“Live tournaments are a completely new thing,” Glowny told PokerNews after his victory. “It’s obviously a massive win.”

We spoke to Glowny at the next EPT Prague event in December 2022, where he was back to defend his title. 

“I think it’s getting bigger every month,” he said when asked if he had been able to appreciate his achievement yet. He said he still thinks about that day, and the return to Prague brought many fond memories flooding back. 

“It’s very nice to be back here,” Glowny said. “I love the place. It’s hard not to have a great feeling when you come back.”

BELEA DREAMED BIG, WON BIG

Romania’s Razvan Belea was already an accomplished player when he won an online satellite to EPT Paris, which took place in February 2023. 

But winning an EPT Main Event was his dream. “I always dreamed of playing with the best and beating them,” he told us. Because even if you make some mistakes against them, you’ll learn more than you would from playing against someone who doesn’t play a lot.”

His dream came true when the 34-year-old defeated an enormous 1,606-entry field to win €1.17 million.

“Always think positive that you can do it and win it,” Belea says. “You can play with the best and beat the best.”
