There’s a brilliant time-lapse photograph/video waiting to be made on any Day 2 of an EPT main event. This is the day on which the bloated field finds itself spread across the full expanse of the floor at the outset, but ends it cowering in a corner, reduced in size by about 60 per cent. We’ll set a camera up one day on an elevated perch and watch the decay.
At time of writing, at the end of level 12, the tournament board shows 324 players still remaining, which means 289 have gone bust today already. They include Leonid Markin, our Super High Roller winner, who is mortal after all; the Red Spades Natalie Hof and Marcin Horecki; the former champions Kevin MacPhee, Benny Spindler and Harrison Gimbel; and Elie El Feghali, who I’ve never heard of but is on the list of bust outs and gets his/her first mention on the Blog.
Chris Hunichen has assumed the chip lead, becoming the first player to break through the 300,000 barrier some time during level 11. He has done most of his best work outside of the gaze of tournament reporters, but won’t stay hidden for long.
A couple of other big stacks have emerged in front of Stephen Graner and Jeffrey Hakim, both of whom won enormous three-way pots. Graner managed to eliminate both Fedor Holz and Adam Levy in the same hand, when he flopped a set of tens to beat pocket eights (Holz) and aces (Levy). Hakim had better luck with the bullets: he knocked out two players when he found red aces later in the day.
The overnight leaders, Andrey Zaichenko and Sergii Baranov, continue to enjoy their excursion to Prague. They still have more than 250,000 each. Tamer Kamel, of the United Kingdom, is putting together a big pile of chips too, as is the remarkable Pablo Sanz Quiles, who qualified for this tournament for FPPs and is on a tear.
Today has also been notable for the announcement of the prize pool, which revealed that the winner of this event will earn €969,000. There will be 159 players paid and a min-cash is worth €8,970. Some more stats follow.
