The European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event has just gone on its dinner break on Day 1A. At time of writing, there have been 645 entries so far — and that’s a fantastic number for the opening flight of a €5,300 Main Event.

More significant even than that is a message scrolling across the top of the PokerStars Live app right now. It says, “EPT Main Event 1A – Seats now available for all players on the waiting list.”

The message continues: “Lots of seats available in 1B.”

As you might have heard, the record-breaking numbers for the FPS Main Event caused some issues. There were registration delays and waiting lists and it forced tournament organisers to bring in hard caps on player numbers in side events.

No tournament organisers want any of this, much less the players.

EARLY BIRDS GET THE SEATS

But the really good news is that EPT Main Event players responded positively to suggestions to register for Day 1A instead of waiting until Day 1B. It accounts for these bumper numbers already, plus the fact that early birds can register for Day 1B with confidence that they’ll get a seat when they want.

The EPT registration desk is open until midnight tonight, and reopens at 10am tomorrow. Therefore players wishing to play Day 1B can come to the venue and pay their buy-in during those times.

As ever: the earlier the better. If you’re intending to play Day 1B, the strong advice is to come and buy-in as soon as you can.

You can also register via the EPT’s payment partner Luxon Pay and guarantee a Day 1B seat, without any waiting list.

In all instances, your chips only go into play when you actually arrive and take your seat. So you can still sit down when you like, it’s just the early registration part that is important.

The other thing to remember is that players in the EPT Main Event have one optional re-entry available to them — with a maximum of one entry per flight. So you can re-enter on Day 1B if you bust Day 1A. Or you can wait until before play starts on Day 2 and re-enter then.

(You can’t, however, play Days 1A and 1B and re-enter on Day 2.)

EPT’S BIGGEST DEBUT

Based on what we’ve seen so far, we’re likely looking at a Main Event field of at least 1,200 entries. That will make EPT Paris the biggest debut event in EPT history, by an enormous margin.

Everyone associated with PokerStars is happy to break new ground in such spectacular fashion, and looking forward to seeing how big this one actually does become.

Julien Liarte, Business Development Manager of the European Poker Tour, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players for their understanding as as we worked through the early issues. Our dedicated staff has been working hard to make sure all the players have a great time at EPT Paris, and we’re looking forward to a really successful Main Event.”
