Where better to spend freezing February than the fringes of the Arctic Circle? Such has been the discussions at EPT HQ over the past six years, and no one yet has found reason to go anywhere other than Copenhagen, Denmark, one of only four destinations to feature on every single season of the European Poker Tour.
Copenhagen promises several things: snow, biting temperatures, aggressive haircuts and cheekbones on which you could crack open beer bottles. It is also a spectacular festival of poker.
There’s not much to do in these parts, where winter lasts for 13 months a year, and Scandinavia has resultantly become the new frontier of the modern game, where many of the new, fiercely aggressive styles were invented and honed before they flushed so dramatically through the world.
There’s absolutely nothing to suggest that this year will be any different. As I type, a long line of angular features are registering for this week’s €5,000 buy-in main event. It’s highly likely that we’ll have more than 400 players and some major stories developing. The first card is due to be dealt at 2pm CET today (Tuesday), and the last pot will be won late on Sunday night, when our new champion will be crowned.
As ever on season six, there are two flights to day one: 1A today and 1B tomorrow. The plan is to play eight one-hour levels for each of those openers, with a 45 minute dinner break at some point and 15 minutes at the end of every other level. Tomorrow, and until the end, levels last 75 minutes, with a break at the end of each of them. The full EPT tournament structure is on the EPT tournament structure page. It’s logical.
