blumenkind53 blows through 10/9/12 Super Tuesday field, earns nearly $84K

This week’s Super Tuesday saw yet another big field join the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold’em tournament that often brings together online poker’s elite. A total of 464 joined the fray this time, making a $464,000 prize pool and easily besting the $300K guarantee. The top 54 finishers divided the prize money, with $89,041.60 scheduled to go to the winner barring a final table deal.

A little after the four-hour mark the field had shrunk to less than 100, with David “CrabMaki” Shallow having pushed into the top spot as the only player with more than 100,000 chips.

About an hour after that they were down to less than 60 players and approaching the cash bubble, with CrabMaki haven fallen back to average-stack status while Viking8844, blumenkind53, and youre moved to the top of the counts. Soon came the eliminations of last week’s third-place finisher Richard “nutinsho” Lyndaker (57th), TheEcLaiMEer (56th), and GGGYFI (55th), and they had reached the money.

By just after the seven-hour mark the field had been trimmed from 54 down to 18. Among those cashing in the interim were Justas “selinantis” Semaška (53rd, $2,320), Jordan “Jymaster11” Young (50th, $2,320), Alex “Schildy1984” Debus (45th, $2,552), David “dpeters17” Peters (42nd, $2,552), Patrick “pmahoney” Mahoney (36th, $2,784), Nicolas “niccc” Chouity (34th, $2,784), Jack “jackellwood” Ellwood (27th, $3,248), and Mike “Pipedream17” Dietrich (19th, $3,248).

By then Dave “CrabMaki” Shallow had worked his way back to a big stack and the top spot with more than 350,000, followed by Viking8844 and myzikant.

It would take nearly one more hour for the final nine to emerge, during which stretch Shallow fell out of the lead again while Viking8844 surged in front. Of the eliminated, tschatsch 17 (18th), highland (17th), and T 54 T 97s (16th) each earned $4,176; gilcoe (15th), joeyspanne88 (14th), and TsubasaOO (13th) took away $5,104 apiece; and Greenstone (12th), Dave “CrabMaki” Shallow (11th), and log1c7 (10th) all saw $6,032 added to their PokerStars accounts.

About 10 minutes into the final table the blinds were 2,400/4,800 when youaremelon raised to 9,600 from middle position, then micide reraised to 22,555 from the big blind. youaremelon made it 39,500 to go, micide pushed it up to 436,800, and youaremelon called with the 144,279 left behind.

youaremelon turned over K♠ K♣ and appeared in a good spot versus micide’s J♠ J♦ . youaremelon was still okay after the 7♦ 9♣ 8♠ flop, but the J♣ fell on the turn to give micide a set, and after the 4♣ river it was youaremelon hitting the rail in ninth place.

They crossed the eight-hour mark, and soon it was myzikant making a minimum-raise to 11,200 from the cutoff seat. It folded to Nunavut Nerd in the big blind who reraised all in for 60,751 and myzikant made the call.

Nunavut Nerd showed 5♣ 5♦ , but needed help versus myzikant’s 6♥ 6♣ . The board ran out 10♣ 2♦ 8♣ 2♣ 9♦ and Nunuvut Nerd’s run had ended in eighth.

About an orbit later the blinds were still 2,800/5,600 when oncommand raised to 11,479 from under the gun, then blumenkind53 reraised to 26,696 from one seat over. It folded back around and oncommand pushed all in for 160,543 total, and blumenkind53 made the call.

The five community cards came 2♠ 10♠ 7♣ 9♠ 2♥ , meaning blumenkind53’s jacks had held and oncommand was out in seventh.

The blinds increased once again to 3,600/7,200, and üä-qaypö.wsx raised 2x to 14,400 from early position. It folded to Viking8844 in the small blind who called the raise, then micide — who had moved into the chip lead — reraised to 36,000 from the big blind. üä-qaypö.wsx responded to that with an all-in push for 219,264, good enough to chase Viking8844, but micide quickly called.

üä-qaypö.wsx had A♦ J♣ , but unfortunately had run into the A♥ A♣ of micide. Five cards later — 7♦ 10♦ 6♣ 5♠ 9♠ — the 458,000-plus chip pot slid micide’s way as üä-qaypö.wsx was eliminated in sixth.

Just a few minutes after that Viking8844 open-raised 2x to 14,400 from the button, then youre reraised all in for 149,726 from the big blind. Viking8844 called, showing 4♠ 4♥ to youre’s K♣ 10♠ . The flop came 9♦ J♠ A♥ , giving youre a gutshot draw to go with the overcards. But the turn was the 2♦ and river the 6♥ , and youre was knocked out in fifth.

The final four made it to the nine-hour break, with micide well in front with about 1.01 million and the other three — Viking8844, myzikant, and blumenkind53 — all sitting with stacks in the 420,000-450,000 range.

About five minutes after play resumed, Viking8844 had slipped down below 150,000 and into fourth position. Then came a hand in which myzikant opened with a big, almost-all-in raise from the small blind and Viking8844 called all in for 123,904 total. myzikant had J♥ 8♦ and Viking8844 A♣ 5♦ . The flop came 4♥ Q♥ 2♠ and turn 9♦ , meaning Viking8844’s hand was still best. But the river brought the J♣ to pair myzikant and send Viking8844 railward in fourth.

The final trio battled on, then a big hand developed between myzikant and blumenkind53 in which the latter was all in before the flop with J♠ J♦ against myzikant’s A♠ K♠ . The board came eight-high and blumenkind53 doubled to nearly 1.3 million and the chip lead while myzikant fell to less than 100,000.

myzikant battled for several hands with the short stack, but at last a hand arose in which myzikant opened for 16,000 from the button, then micide raised to 35,555 from the small blind. blumenkind53 stepped aside, myzikant reraised all in for 155,407, and micide called.

myzikant had 5♣ 5♦ and was hoping the pair would hold versus micide’s A♣ J♣ . But the flop came A♦ 3♣ 9♥ to give micide a better pair, and after the K♥ turn and 10♣ river they were down to two.

blumenkind53 had a better than 2-to-1 advantage over his fellow German to start heads-up play with 1,616,989 to micide’s 703,011.

“wollen wirs choppen?” typed blumenkind53, proposing a deal to lessen the divide between first- and second-place money. “ich hab weniger chips,” noted micide, referring to the difference between them. “ja obv nicht even chop,” replied blumenkind53, recognizing they wouldn’t be making an even split, though still offering to make a deal. micide agreed to do so, and the tourney was paused.

Both quickly agreed to a division of the loot based on ICM numbers — minus $6,000 for the eventual winner — and soon cards were back in the air.

The first part of the heads-up duel saw micide begin to chip away at blumenkind53’s stack to narrow the gap between the two. Then a big hand developed which saw the pair trade bets through the turn as the board came A♠ 7♠ 9♥ K♥ with micide eventually all in.

blumenkind53 had K♠ 3♠ for kings and the nut flush draw while micide had K♦ 9♦ for kings and nines. The river was the 7♦ , and suddenly micide had the big lead with more than 2 million while blumenkind53 had slipped to just under 250,000.

blumenkind53 battled back, however, including doubling up with A♣ 10♥ versus micide’s J♥ J♣ when an ace flopped and blumenkind53’s hand held. Soon blumenkind53 had pulled even with micide, then grabbed the lead back in a hand in which a flop brought him two pair to micide’s one pair, and blumenkind53 earned three post-flop streets’ worth of value to double up and take the lead.

Before long it was blumenkind53 up over the 2 million mark while micide had slipped to just under 300,000. The blinds were 5,000/10,000, and a hand came up in which blumenkind53 opened for 20,000 from the button, micide raised to 50,000, blumenkind53 reraised all in, and micide called with the 247,754 behind.

micide had the preflop advantage, but the 2♥ 4♦ 3♣ flop gave blumenkind53 a straight, leaving micide hoping for a saving five to chop. The turn brought the 2♦ and river the J♠ , and it was all over.

Congratulations to blumenkind53 for topping another huge Super Tuesday field for the win and nearly $84K score. And kudos as well to micide for a runner-up finish worth more than $71K following the final table deal.
